Telecine
Core Term Definition
An early mechanical and electronic device used to translate motion picture film frames into broadcast video formats.
Technical Analysis & Context
Pioneered in the mid-20th century, a telecine allows films to be broadcast on television or copied to videotape. It uses a projector synchronized with a video camera tube to perform frame rate conversion (such as the 3:2 pulldown needed for 24fps film on 30fps television systems).
