IMAX Film Format
Core Term Definition
A massive 15-perforation wide-gauge film format that runs horizontally through specialized cameras and projection gates.
Technical Analysis & Context
Co-developed by Canadian filmmakers, IMAX uses 70mm wide film running horizontally rather than vertically. This horizontal transport accommodates 15 perforations per frame, resulting in an image area approximately ten times larger than standard vertical 35mm, offering the highest resolution in photographic history.
