8mm Film (Standard / Regular 8)
Core Term Definition
A consumer film gauge introduced in 1932, created by exposing 16mm film in two passes and cutting it in half.
Technical Analysis & Context
Also known as Regular 8, this consumer format was developed by Kodak during the Great Depression. The film is run through the camera in two directions, exposing half the width on each pass. The lab develops the film, splits it down the center, and splices it together, creating a highly economical home movie format.
