2K / 4K / 8K Scanning Resolution
Core Term Definition
The horizontal pixel count of digital scans, representing the level of detail captured from physical film.
Technical Analysis & Context
These resolutions define the size of digital frames: 2K is approx 2048 pixels wide, 4K is 4096, and 8K is 8192. While 35mm film grain is typically resolved fully at 4K, fine-grain stocks, wide-gauge 70mm, and IMAX require 8K scans to capture the maximum photographic density of the emulsion.
