Archival Film Canisters
Core Term Definition
Chemically inert containers designed to protect film reels from physical damage, dust, and corrosive vapors.
Technical Analysis & Context
Standard commercial tin cans rust over time, staining film and accelerating decay. Modern archives use containers molded from high-density polypropylene or aluminum that are chemically inert. These cans often feature small vents to allow decomposing acid gases to escape safely rather than being trapped inside.
